The First Day

Today was the first day of school for the boys and the first day of homeschool for little missy.

Doesn't he look thrilled!! My other son refused to take a picture, he was too upset over his shoe laces.
Apparently the one was longer than the other and this caused a problem.

I can't say that the first day went smoothly, their bus was 15 minutes late, we couldn't wait any more because my high schooler needed a ride so everyone had to jump in the car. After I dropped him off we headed to the junior high.  Getting to the school was a nightmare!  Because we are now being charged for bus service, $100.00 per child and $500.00 per child if you live less than a mile away, many parents are choosing to drive their children to school.

Not only has this caused major traffic in the area near the school but there are fewer buses and longer bus routes, this in turn creates a longer bus ride.  Last year the kids got off the bus at 3:00 p.m and now they get dropped off at 3:25p.m. They were a little overwhelmed today being that it was the first day and with all the changes.

I did attend the school board meeting tonight because of my concerns in the school district. There are many cuts in the school budget, there are even fewer patrols. We have a wonderful school board who is willing to work with the parents but unfortunately with all the cuts the resources are limited.

Today was also our first day of homeschool. After researching many different curriculum's I chose My Father's World.  I did consider Classical Conversation but because my daughter has some learning challenges I was afraid it would be difficult for her.

We started the day with prayer and then went on to the Creation Story. We will be working on that for the next 7 days and are making a book. We also traced lines, went over the alphabet, which she has mastered and read 3 books.
We spent a total of about an hour. We also
joined a co-op that we will be with once a week. We should be starting within 2 weeks and I'm very excited.
