A Frightening Sight
Today I went to check out a dance studio for my daughter and on the way home I witnessed something frightening. It was around 5:00 p.m., still light out, and as I'm driving home I see a young woman walking on the sidewalk and a car following her. I pass the car, drive slower, and continue to watch.
The woman attempts to cross the street when all of the sudden the car pulls in front of her, the driver (a man)
gets out, grabs her and drags her to his car. Now it happened so quickly it was hard to tell if he hit her or worse and I didn't see if anyone else was in the car.
I start to get a little panicky as I'm watching other cars just drive by, I knew I had to do something. She put up a fight and at this point I put my car in reverse, jump out and yell that I'm calling 911, I know what you're all thinking, it was stupid of me to get out of the car but I only did it thinking he may get scared and let her go.
I jumped back in my car and called 911 and as I'm telling them what just happened he passes me up so I was able to get the make of the car and plate #, just then he starts slowing down and as he was driving closer to my car, my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest. He slowed down enough to were we where driving right next to each other, rolls down his window and starts making crazy hand gestures but then thankfully he drove off.
I told the police I couldn't follow him because my daughter was in the car and at this point I was scared he may slow down again and come after me.
When I told my husband he got upset that I got out of the car especially since I had my daughter inside but I was far enough away and there was plenty of traffic. I would never put my kids in harms way, ever, but I did feel compelled to do something. I'm so thankful to God that nothing happened to me and most importantly my daughter. My husband said that for all I know they may be in a relationship and have gotten into a bad fight, even so she did not willingly get into his car, he used force to get her in.
I just pray that whether they now each other or not that this woman is safe and that if in fact she does know this man I hope she realizes that this is not normal behavior.

ReplyDeleteI think you did the right thing Sophie! I'm amazed there was so much traffic and no one else stepped up like you did! BRAVO!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. That is so scary. I am sure that they were able to follow up on it.
ReplyDeleteWow- I bet that was scary. I probably would have done the same thing AND my husband would have said the same thing to me.
ReplyDeleteThankful everyone was okay- and as for the woman I hope she stays very far away from him.
Way to speak up for what is right!!
This is a crazy world we live in. So glad you are OK! My guess is that they knew each other. Another reminder to be praying that our daughters choose godly men to be involved with.
ReplyDeleteoh my that is so scary! I would have done the same thing (perhaps impulsively) however maybe this is the thing that will make a difference in that girls life!

That's memorable on a very frightening level! SO glad you are okay... I've been thinking about you a ton lately and praying for peace for you. I wish we lived closer too :) If you are ever up in Milwaukee let me know - I'd love to meet up!

Oh my word, Sophie! ~ that is SO scary! I wonder if I would've done the same thing in your shoes. I know I would've felt compelled to do something, as I could not just stand by and do nothing. It sure would've been nice if the police department would've followed up with you to let you know that she was okay. In anycase, I'm just glad YOU're okay and that the crazy man didn't come after you. I guess this is on of the many reasons why we pray and seek out God's hedge of protection over us, right!! So proud of you!
